Email I just wrote to a friend who is going out of...
I feel like I need to disclose that the last time someone left a pet in my charge the pet died! But it was a hamster and I was in 8th grade. Also, the hamster ate its own babies (not while I was watching it) so clearly it was a beast of Satan.

Day 1: Beets
Beets are one of the least intimidating items on the NYT list. I’ve had them in Russian salads and as a garnish in Cuban dishes, but since I don’t know how to make either of those things I decided to go with something a bit more familiar. I bought the steamed, chilled beets from Trader Joes...
