And whatever on This Land is Your Land. Fine, it’s a fine song. I
thought it was a fine song when I had to sing it ad nauseum in 4th
grade music class, too. For the record, I also think “There’s a Hole
in The Bucket, Dear Liza, Dear Liza” and “Jimmy Crack Corn” are fine
songs. Just not rockin’ out to them.

Also, though I understand that This Land is Your Land is really a
folk/protest song, it has essentially been coopted and is a vital
propaganda tool that public educational institutions use to socialize
our children. And while I also recognize that socialization of this
sort is an important part of maintaining legitimacy in any civilized
society, I also resent it. So, as far as I’m concerned, This Land is
Your Landhas the same kernel of evil that the Pledge of Allegiance
has. So stick that in your Woody Guthrie and smoke it.
